Yorkshire Day 3 - Walking

Wednesday 8th, a walk in North Yorkshire.

The view as you come out the front of Parceval Hall on our way to meet in the carpark ready and willing for our walk.

The rock formation looks like a gorilla face, I didn’t notice it until it was pointed out, then you can’t help but see it. There are eleven of us on the walk and about here we split into two groups so some could climb up a river bed the others a gentler  miners track - miners track for me, I was told they used to mine for lead here, did see an old shaft or two.

Not too steep a hill to start with, it feels unusual to be walking amongst stock, as tracks are often through farms. We met up near the top ready to continue together

Sometimes it is through big gates, sometimes small pathway gates, otherwise it is over stiles and very small gaps in the stone walls.

We were lucky to come across some sheep all rounded up in the pen, they have such interesting faces.

The fields look so tidy with their dry stone walls. Coming down to a fork in the path, we turned right to go to the village of Burnsall to eat our packed lunch, unfortunately the toilets were closed so none of that happened.

The breeze had come up a bit whilst we were eating our lunch , but it was still pleasant being by a river - always photos to be taken

We walked back down the track a bit alongside the river or stream. It seems that I am the only one taking photos so I have to get in quick to keep up with the other walkers.

Fat looking sheep, and somewhat friendly as they came up to the fence as we were walking by.

Oh it is the river Wharfe, which makes sense as the walking was to be in Wharfedale. We continued along the river past some villages - not sure if it is Appletreewick which is the closest to Parceval Hall. Such a fantastic name

Through a wood and up another hill (slope) In a mighty big circle really

Down a road that you had to quickly jump up on to the grass and brambles on the side when a car came along

But the view over the dry stone walls was beautiful, through another farm, the path leading right past the farmhouse, close enough to touch it, then out on to a road

The light was changing all the time as you can see, but we made it back to Parceval Hall which has a killer drive to walk up at the end of the walk, by this time it was nearly 4pm so a good fivwe or more hours walking, I was pretty shattered by then!

We had cottage pie for tea with carrot and Swede and beans and cabbage, we all tucked in to it pretty fast! Then Lemon Meringue Pie for desert. I have eaten too many puddings since I have been away- it is just as well I have done a big walk - nearly 14 kilometres up hill and down dale today.
