Last day in Norfolk
Monday 13th October, A visit to Fellbrigg Hall and Holt
Fulbright Hall is a National Trust property, it covers 1760 acres of parkland, thee ids the hall itself, but we went specifically to view the walled garden, it was a day of intermittent light drizzle so the walled garden was sufficient. Owned by the Wyndham family for centuries, the last owner was a bit of a recluse, never married, his brother was killed in the Second World War, and his sisters died earlier. He left the property to the National Trust in 1969.
there was a wonderful mix of fuschias, cannas and an impressive red grass, was really good against the brick wall, photo doesn’t really do it justice. Don’t know what this flower is below!
Proof that there was drizzle the dahlia petals glistened with raindrops. And the organic bug control below.
The octagonal dovecote is a feature, did see a few doves, but wasn’t able to catch them on camera.
Fruitrees espaliered on the walls were amazing, another photo further on.
We visited the shop and facilities, which are in the old farm buildings, the stables had mobility scooters and wheelchairs for hire rather than horses. We gave the cafe a miss so we could dine in Holt a nearby town.
Holt is a pretty little town, apparently there is an owl trail, its intent is to take you to places of interest around the town. This is set in the pavement.
We sat in the bay window of this establishment and watched the world go by, namely the Brit’s and their dogs, lf they are not walking them they are talking about them or taking them in to shops!!
A wander around the charming little town, looking for ways to spend my last pounds, looking in the little craft shops, but nothing took my fancy. A busy day though, I felt quite sad when Ronda drove me home through the country lanes with the cute housed and all the trees, there are so many, and often you have a wood beside the rode, it is very beautiful. That was my last day in Norfolk, England
