Wednesday Cassis to Avignon
Wednesday 10th September
An early morning start, as with our entry into to Cassis, our minibus had to be out of the town early. We had a chance to have a Quick Look around the daily market. Fascinating to see how the fruit and vegetables are displayed, and the varieties especially the tomatoes.
Then in the bus and up the winding road to the cliffs, the red ones we could see from last evening, we made a few stops to take in the panoramas from the Foret Communale de Cassis.
Looking out over the Mediteraenian sea.
A View to the east into the sun, and the light clouds.
Further on and we could look back on Cassis

Then to the east again
What a stunning way to start the morning!
We continued down to the city of La Ciotat, where the Liumiere brothers made and showed the first film! Another lovely harbour to walk around with lovely little traditional boats. As well as some rather large ones
We drove on to a vineyard in Chateau Neue Le Rouge - La Galiniere. It is at the foot of Mount St Victoire the mountain painted many times by Cezanne, must have been a different view point from where we were.
They have a huge machine to harvest the grapes, something they are doing at present, they harvest at night time.
We had a wine tasting, a Rose, a white and a red and then were treated to lunch, set out in little potatoes, very yummy!
We travelled on after several bottle of wine had been purchased, by those on the trip who drink wine. Our next stop was Aix en Provence where a number of us had opted to attend the Cezanne exhibition, in the place where he lived an painted.
This lead us to the exhibition, The line.
It was a fabulous exhibition with a lot of works I hadn’t seen in pictures! Great to see some of his drawings too.
