Wednesday 23rd September - Norfolk
Wednesday 23rd to Norfolk
Well I managed to get to Liverpool street Station, and on to the correct train to Norwich, just under two hours journey time, quite pleasant looking at the countryside on the way, although often blurred by the speed of the train.
One of the stations we stopped at was Diss - there are definitely some weird names over here!
A walk around the village in the afternoon, met some neighbours who are taking a trip to New Zealand in a few weeks time. Had a couple of blackberries, foraged pocketful of very large walnuts theme back to Flinstone Cottage ( The walls are flint, not Fred and Wilma and that was my day.
Country lane where the walnuts were found, there is an orchard in the village for all, it is a commemoration of the Second World War, 55 people from Stibbard went to war only 45 came back, their names are under the trees.
The view from my bedroom window into the garden.
Had a fabulous sleep last night in that room upstairs, And enjoying a quiet morning.Went for an outing in the afternoon, just down the road a bit to see some ruins as you do! Creake Abbey, founded in the early 13th century for a community of Augustinian canons who ran a hospital for the sick and needy, fire in 1480’s and then disease claimed the lives of all the canons by 1506. The abbey was dissolved and the property went to Christ College in Cambridge. This is one Abbey that got out before Henry VIII got to it then!
All made from flint like many of the houses in this district, it looks much nicer than I expected - the flint. There is a small group of shops close by antiques, gift and craft type ones, very nice and this really cute cafe, where I had a chai latte, they are hard to find over here so must be enjoyed when they present themselves.
The photo doesn’t quite portray the bursts of colour you see when happening upon it, but check out the sofas.
Both days there have been airforce jets flying over, we are close to a base I believe and they are training in these skies.
A quick stop at a nursery, as you would, just in case you may need some plants, then to an old movie theatre in Falkingham a nearby town to see The Roses, I would recommend it Benedict and Olivia at their best.
