Wednesday 17th Last day in Nice

 Wednesday 17th September

All of a sudden it is my last day in Nice, I am leaving in the early hours of the morning on Thursday, providing the planned nationwide strike doesn’t affect me.

I had originally planned to have dinner with Lisl, but I thought an early night might be a better idea. My plan for today was to walk up the hill at the eastern edge of the bay.

The Promenade des Anglais (I think I’ve called it Boulevard and avenue previously) but promenade is what it says on my phone, turns into the Quai des Etta’s Unis just before it reaches the hill.

Hmm there is something interesting at the end of the quai - I wonder what that can be?

It looks a bit crocheted, but also looks fabulous! One thing that didn’t look fabulous was the stairs to the Colline du Chateau (castle hill) I was nearly put off by the look of them!

But the view was spectacular and continued to be so.

A man made waterfall, which which nevertheless looks lovely, and a little bit of spray much appreciated after quite a few steps!

Thats the dome of the church les americannes and I had our dinner beside on Monday night

Looking to the north east, I love those umbrella pine trees, they have such a presence! And looking east to the bay and small marina just over the hill

There is a museum half way up or down. Not sure what all this says but Berlioz was here, he wrote the overture for King Lear in 1838. It was occupied by an English family ……

Back down to sea level, another sculpture by the beach.

Then i went into the old town seeking some shade, through the markets and the pretty cactus flower pots I have seen in a cocouple of places. Then it was time for a bit of French cuisine for lunch, Croque Monsieur and a big glass of tonic and ice!

Siesta time, and time to enjoy the air conditioning, I decided on one last outing to the Musee des Beaux Artes de Nice

Anonymous after Luigi Guguelmi - but rather lovely veil in marble!

A bit of Gustavo-Adolph Mossa 1883-1971, watercolour , lead pencil, ink and gouache on paper, I rather liked his art pieces

A bit of Raoul Dufy - well quite a lot actually, I really enjoyed his part of the exhibition. And last but not least a bit of Rodin! The Kiss.

the walls of this building, must have all been painted originally, as occasionally ther was a bit of the painting revealed within the white paint,

Really pleased I made the effort to go, as a fitting end to my Provençal holiday!
