Last Day in Wales
We had an early start and nearly two hours in the bus to get us to St Fagans - a museum of welsh life. It is quite a large area and contains building whether a replica or something that has been moved there and re-constructed. We had three hours there but it wasn’t long enough,
Iron Age village, really thick walls, smelt of smoke, and one of the attendants was building a fire, as the day damp and cold, no actual smoke hole at the top of the thatch, but little gaps between the sod/clay and the thatch. apparently a thick layer of smoke under the ceiling has insulating properties.
The chapel had been reconstructed on site, when they were preparing to take it down they uncovered some paintings which they have recreated on the walls, telling stories from the bible, pictures were used for people that couldn’t read, the fundamental reason for the decoration of churches.
Had a wee giggle about the Fish and Chips and cups of tea on display.
All set amongst beautiful greeen countryside, but only about 20 minutes from Cardiff.
Back to Cardiff. I had a couple of hours before my train, so Had a bit of a walk around, browsed in the shops, until it started to rain, so spent some more time in the hotel, five minutes from the station. Lovely journey through beautiful countryside.
Changing trains at Chester, managed to get straight onto one to Liverpool. So got there a little early, didn’t see any cabs outside the station so decided ato walk the 15 minutes to hotel, only 8.30, still very light but people were out partying as a lot of nightclubs in the area. Can’t hear a thing in my hotel room which is good. Great little hotel room, with a little kitchenette in the wardrobe! What a find.
