Wednesday 5th June - Paris Art Gallery Day

Musee D’Orsay was first up, Booked to go in at 9.30am so had to leave about 8.30am, early morning out for me. Found Moliere along the way, by the National Library

Interesting window displays

Then the Museum which holds paintings from late 1800’s to the present day, but the big pull are the Impressionist paintings, Interesting to see all those names and paintings we learn’t about in 6th form Art classes, a lovely building to house them all too

I’ve just done a jigsaw puzzle of this one from Monet

Cezanne

Surprised by how much they had by Van Gogh, but I suppose his more famous paintings were all in France

A bit of Rodin, and then something more contemporary

There was also some Art Nouvesu furnishings, and some interesting chairs in the restaurant

Lunchtime was my halftime at the Tuileries which is right next to the Louvre. So had something to eat and drink and filled up my water bottle, then rested watching people for an hour, sat behind a lady with amazing hair - she would be an artist’s muse I am sure

Then the Louvre, waiting in line with all those due to go in at 1.30

When we got in passed security ended up in a big space, with no idea of which way to go, only signs that made sense were those saying Sortir - Exit! But ended up in the Richelieu wing with a map to assist - sort of!

Amazing space for sculptures, and lovely to se some trees inside this area, Oh there is so much stuff to see at this place, Greek, Roman classical sculptures, and lots of Egyptian artefacts and sarcophagi, I remember how exciting the one we had in the Canterbury museum was a highlight, but there were two long glass cabinets of these

Even some for the cats

Nice floors

And then the hall of Italian paintings, felt like a kilometre long!

Some interesting paintings

Then went into the salon where La Giacomda is housed, well I wasn’t going to wait to see that, this is what I could see above every bodies heads, memories of Versailles Palace .. I’m out of there!

Time for a quick bit of French art - J L David death of Murat (6th form art again)

Some Islamic art

Then it was following the Sortir signs, from under that pyramid, which weren’t that easy to follow I must say, but came up by a food cart so had to purchase a chocolate chip cookie made by bakers that use pure butter, must of had some pure gold in it too as it cost nearly 4 euro, but I needed something sweet, and luckily it was scrumptious, chewy with a crunchie coating nom nom -plus it was a bit bigger than it looks there cookie time size but thicker!

Time to walk back to the hotel, past Joan of Arc

Got a bit lost but found Louis 14 in La place de Victoires

Found my favourite takeaway Merci Jerome - so this is dinner, Quinoa salad with feta, almonds, lettuce, herbs and pomegranate seeds, some bread, note the wee bottle of dressing and a raspberry charlotte for desert, with water! Food is quite expensive here but best not to think about it too much, just forget that each Euro is about two dollar NZ. Bon appetite!

  1. All looks so wonderful. Yes I remember that 6th form art class. Still have part of a project somewhere which includes a pencil drawing of the Thinker. I think you might have had some input . x
