Saturday18th May Cordoba to Granada

We back tracked a bit and then headed towards Obeda in the Jaen region. this area alone supplies 20% of the worlds Olive Oil, pretty impressive ! In Obeda we participated in some Olive oil tasting - not a profession for me I’m afraid - similar to wine tasting but you don’t spit it out, I almost choked on the oil that had spicy attributes. Nevertheless It was informative, we learnt to smell the difference between oils made of green or black grapes, and what bad olive oil ( Lampent ) tastes like. Our tour leader suggested on our way to Obeda that we estimate how many olive trees are in the region as that would be one of the questions. Turns out there are 67 million olive trees - we think we saw a fair few of them on our travels

Just a few if the 67 million above, they went on forever, but the scenery was amazing, we were all quite excited through when we passed fields of poppies, the red a relief after fields and fields of olives

As we got closer to Granada we could see the Sierra Nevada mountains, still with a little bit of snow on th speaks. We arrived in Granada about 5.30, after checking in to our hotel, an old Palazzo, we had an orientation wander around the city, learnt where to buy the best nougat, and also sampled a pomegranate ice cream. Who new that Granada means pomegranate? ice cream was superb.

  1. Took me awhile to be able to sign in to comment. I love the colour of the poppies against the green and blue!
